Schwarzenegger - Oui Magazine, August 1977

This is was an interesting time for Arnold. It was post Pumping Iron, but pre-superstardom. He could have easily slid into obscurity at this point. It's interesting how he took his physique and parlayed that into the star that he eventually became.

Everyones favorite monster cereal heroes.

These are couple of cool cereal box records I recently picked up. I like them as an adult, but I would have loved them as a kid.

Sex In Space

This is a crazy pictorial from the July 1980 issue of Velvet magazine. At the time there were so many smut mags on the market, that I guess they would do just about anything to set themselves apart.

Jim Woodring's Priceless Advice

Nearly two decades ago, Jim Woodring took the time to write me a letter of encouragement, and advice. Unfortunately, I didn't have the dedication and focus it takes to be print-worthy. However all of that aside, I'll always respect the fact that someone I look up to took the time out give a broke-ass white boy in Alabama a nudge in the right direction.

Thanks Jim!

Found In An Alley

I found these lying outside a dumpster in an alley one day a few years ago. On one side are photos from a project, and written on the other, someone is laying their heart bear, working through a break up.

Okay, this first one is from the beginning of the relationship, signed to "Nathan".

I'm not sure how this fits with the others. First of all I can't tell if it is written to Miko, or if it is from Miko. If it is from Miko, then is it written to Nathan? And is Miko one of Kelly's nicknames? I'm pretty sure that whoever this is written to, "Weston" is the roommate.

At any rate, there is some marriage discussion here. My opinion is that the marriage talk is premature. Anyhow, read on.

The rest of these definitely belong together. They are all written using the same handwriting. And look closely at at the upper left hand corner on the written side of the first pic. You can make out "Hi Nathan".

The author is clingy, but she eventually let go. I wonder what was on the cd.

A Beautiful Julie Doucet Wraparound Catalog Cover.

Drawn and Quarterly have released some amazing comics in their day. One of which was Dirty Plotte, by Julie Doucet. Dirty Plotte was both gritty, and funny at the same time. And of course, the art was amazing, which is the reason I held on to this catalog. I couldn't bear the thought of just tossing this Julie Doucet piece away.

Once Upon A Time, Stuart Gordon Signed My Sketchbook.

Around ten years ago, Stuart Gordon brought his brand new movie, Dagon, to the Grand Illusion theater in Seattle. At the time, the Grand Illusion was within walking distance from my place, so clearly I had to be there. As was my custom at the time, I brought my sketchbook with me, since I brought it with me everywhere. The movie was (and still is great), and Stuart Gordon freely answered questions from the audience after the film. Also, he signed my sketchbook on the way out, which was a real treat.

Abandoned Sonic Drive-In, and Fairgrounds In Anniston, Alabama

Many a time I've gone bowling, and swung by the Sonic for a bite to eat afterwards. At the time these photos were taken, I believe the fairgrounds were cleaned up once a year for the fair. Also, sleaze pioneer Dave Friedman ran the county fair. I don't believe it is clear in these pics, but directly across the street from the Sonic is a graveyard.

You can watch Dave Friedman carrying on at the County Fair in the documentary, Mau Mau Sex Sex.
